Reacting to MDMK leader Vaiko’s statement that Tamil Nadu may see a “bloodbath” if something happened to LTTE leader V Prabhakaran, Congress today said the electoral heat could have made Vaiko “lose balance”.
“May be the electoral heat has made Vaiko lose balance...” party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters here.
Addressing a protest demonstration in Chennai yesterday, Vaiko has warned of a “bloodbath” in the state if “something” happened to Prabhakaran in the ongoing offensive by the Sri Lankan army in the island nation’s Tamil areas.
Sharma said the stand of the government on the Sri Lankan issue has been “clear, firm and unwavering”.
He said while the government stood by the rights of the ethnic Tamil population, a distinction had to be made between the suffering Tamil civilian population and the banned terrorist outfit.
