CHIEF MINISTER Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said society today needed to embrace yoga to be able to lead a healthy and joyous life, instead of focusing only on materialistic pleasures. He reiterated that yoga education would be encouraged at all levels in the State.
The Chief Minister said this while inaugurating a six-day ‘Yoga Vigyan’ camp at the Lal Parade ground. Patanjali Yoga Peeth, Haridwar founder and renowned yoga guru Baba Ramdev performed various yoga aasans, which were followed by participants at the camp.
Chouhan, organising committee chairperson Sadhana Singh Chouhan, Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi, Minister of State for Culture (Independent charge) Laxmikant Sharma, Mayor Sunil Sood, convenor Dilip Suryavanshi, Kaptan Singh Solanki and director general of police Anand Rao Pawar welcomed Baba Ramdev presenting him bouquets. The camp began with the recitation of national song ‘Vande Mataram’ and lighting of a lamp.
In his address, Chouhan further observed that yoga did not belong to any particular religion or community. Underlining the importance of yoga, he said it was becoming an integral and inseparable part of life.
He said this message for the welfare of entire humanity should be propagated. “Yoga keeps one’s mind, wisdom and body always healthy and dynamic. It also helps generate new efficiency and vigour inside our body and soul.
In the absence of physical strength one cannot either deliver anything good for himself /herself or for the society,” he added. In this context, the Chief Minister described yoga as the finest discipline to keep fit.
Chouhan also took the opportunity to urge Baba Ramdev to establish a unit of the Patanjali Yoga Peeth in Madhya Pradesh so that people from across the State as well as adjoining States could benefit from it.
He reassured the yoga Guru of all possible assistance and co-operation for the establishment of the yoga peeth in Madhya Pradesh. He expressed the hope that every citizen would become disease free and happy through the practice of yoga.
Later, Baba Ramdev made people at the camp practice yoga from five am for three hours. Thousands of people participated enthusiastically in the programme. In the evening, Baba Ramdev visited the residence of retired police officer R R Rai at Vaishali Nagar where he stayed from 4 pm to 5 pm.
