It’s no secret that Vishal Bhardwaj’s Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola starring Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma will release this January. But not many are aware that the filmmaker is also working on another project, Emraan Hashmi-Kalki Koechlin starrer Ek Thi Daayan (ETD). And since both the films were set to release one after the other, in consecutive months, ETD’s release has now been shifted to April 2013.

“ETD was initially planned to release in February, just a month after Matru… but Vishal wouldn’t have had enough time to promote ETD. So, he, along with Ekta Kapoor and the Balaji team (co-producers of ETD), decided to push the film to April. This will allow them to dedicate ample time to promote the film properly,” says an insider close to the film.

And if the sources are to be believed, Emraan himself would also very busy with Karan Johar’s next, around the same time, which would not give him time for the promotions either. “Emraan is a huge brand right now as far as his star status goes. So, the makers are planning intense promotions with him. ETD is an edgy thriller, but at the same time, it will also appeal to kids, since Emraan plays a magician,” adds the insider. The film is likely to release in early April. At present, it’s in the last stages of shooting. While Vishal remained unavailable for a comment, Tanuj Garg, CEO, Balaji Motion Pictures, confirms the news saying, “ETD will release on April 11 now. It’s an entertaining supernatural thriller. So, we need enough time to promote it aggressively before release.”
