Encroachments by car accessories shops continue to hassle Atam Nagar residents

Encroachments by the owners of car accessories shops in Atam Nagar area on Dugri Road are leading to long traffic snarls in the area. The vehicles of customers that are brought for modification, including car seat covers fitting, music system installation and car accessories fitting, are kept parked on the road outside their shops, thus covering more than 15-feet area of the road. This causes harassment to the commuters as well as visitors to the market.

Harsimran Singh, a visitor to the market, said “Many times, I got stuck in the traffic on this road. My house is near Dugri Road, so I have to choose this way to reach my home. Authorities should take strict action against these encroachments and clear the way to ease the commuters.”
On the one hand, shopkeepers and commuters are forced to face inconvenience, and on the other hand, MC is clueless about the issue and has failed to take any strict action to stop these illegal activities so far.

It is pertinent to mention here that not a single notice have been issued to these shop owners for illegally encroaching the road, so far.

Interestingly, the Atam Nagar police station is near to the market, but the cops never bother to clear these encroachments and take action against shop owners. Besides, auto rickshaws drivers park their autos near the police station, thus encroaching upon the land, but still no action is being taken by the police.

The story doesn’t end here, as the condition is similar in various other areas of the city, including Dugri Road, Books Market Road, Rekhi Cinema Road and Field Ganj. These places are specifically known for long traffic jams due to which most of the people have to choose alternative way for crossing.

Dilsher Singh, a resident of Rekhi Cinema Road, said “I always got stuck in the traffic whenever I cross this road. There are restaurants and taxi stand on this road. People who visit the restaurant park their vehicles on road. Moreover, the vehicles of taxi stand are also being parked on the road, thus blocking the way. Authorities should take strict action against these illegal encroachments.”

Municipal corporation Zone-A superintendent Rajeev Bhardwaj said “I will look into the matter of encroachments on Rekhi Cinema Road, and action will be taken in the matter.”

MC Zone-D superintendent Jasdev Sekhon was not available for comments.
