A YOUTH drowned in a water tank in the fields near Bilkhiria on Wednesday evening and a woman died when a wall collapsed during the storm this evening.

According to police sources, Pankaj Sharma, 19, a student of BE first year in Lakshmi Naryan College of Technology (LNCT) had gone for a swim in a pond in the fields with his friends. The youths, all hostellers, had gone out during the storm.

It is surmised that the youth’s feet got stuck in mud and he slipped thus getting drowned. The body was later recovered. The deceased’s father is a teacher in Morena. The Bilkhiria police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, a woman died when a wall collapsed during the storm in the City on Wednesday. According to police, Ramvati, 40, wife of Maharaj Singh, a resident of Seven Quarters near Devki Nagar, had gone to the grounds near her house at around 5 pm when the boundary wall suddenly caved in.

The neighbours later tried to extricate the woman but she had died. Her husband is a railway guard and was on duty at the time of the incident. The Nishatpura police are investigating the case.
