The art of getting fun out of hectic schedule of life is sure to help reduce tension in our day-to-day existence. I remember a case when my nephew was appearing in board exam. The day before his maths paper, there was a beautiful movie to be shown on TV. As his younger sister, insisted on seeing the movie, parents could not switch off the set.
The boy too wanted to watch it. His parents were in a dilemma. But the sensible father politely asked the boy to come and watch the movie, and both the parents also sat with him before the TV set. The whole family enjoyed the movie. When it was over, the boy left the room and began practising the maths problems in a very calm and joyful manner.
Had the parents refused to allow their son to watch the TV, it was possible that he might have done badly in the examination. By giving their permission, they gave the son an incentive to work harder and concentrate and perform better without feeling depressed.
This incident illustrates how essential it is to know how to get fun out of life. This is also applicable in spiritual life. Spirituality does not mean that a person should remain gloomy with a sobre countenance. Spirituality does not mean being a kill-joy.
Life cannot be smooth all the time. There are challenges, obstacles and adversities. Our temperament should be such that we should remain undisturbed in all circumstances and try to come out of it without any feeling of gloom or despair.
Animals are better in this respect. For example, if an animal is attacked by a hunter, it tries its best to save its life by running away or escaping. Other animals which live by killing smaller animals do not brood if they are unsuccessful in catching their prey. They forget their failure immediately and try again.
This is only to underline the fact that failure is a part of living. And that it should make us work harder.
