If you live in Delhi and are still to get a voter’s ID card, Wednesday is your last chance to enlist yourself in the electoral list if you want to cast your vote in the December assembly elections.
You can register online or by visiting the voters’ registration and electoral photo identification card centres in your constituency (see box).
“November 6 (Wednesday) is the last date for all those who want to enrol themselves in the final voters’ list. People can simply log on to our website and submit an application or they can visit our office,” said Ankur Garg, chief nodal officer (model code of conduct).
Registration will continue even after Wednesday although people will not be allowed to cast their vote in the assembly polls to be held on December 4. “Registration will continue even after November 6 but the people whose names are added after Wednesday will not be allowed to vote in the December elections,” he added.
In the past one month, ever since the model code of conduct came into force, the Delhi Election Commission added approximately 2.5 lakh more voters.
Delhi now has a total of 1,15,11,036 voters of which 6,461,293 are men and 5,199,924 women. There are 3,7,29,66 young voters between the age group of 18 and 19 years and 527 voters are registered under the category of ‘others’.
To make people aware about how to getting themselves enrolled in the voters’ list, the Delhi election commission had started the second phase of its awareness drive. This includes rallies, competitions, quizzes and connecting with the youth.
“The last date of nomination is November 16 and hence November 6 has been made the last date for enlisting your names in the voters list as we need at least 10 days to update the information, verify addresses and names. A final roll will be issued before the elections. All those whose names are present in the list will be able to vote. Even those who don’t have a voter identification card but their names figure in the final voters’ list will be allowed to cast their vote,” added the official.
