Expressing concern over unannounced power cuts in the state, the Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded uninterrupted power supply.
State spokesman Balbir Ram says round-the-clock availability of electricity is a must as the power cuts create problems for students, housewives, patients, elderly etc.
The government ought to be mindful of these circumstances, he said.
"The government has a full-fledged power development department, which is presided over by none other than the chief minister himself, who is also the power minister," says Ram.
"The CM should realise the needs and problems of the people and personally look into as to why electricity is not being supplied uninterruptedly," he said.
The state government should setup gas turbines and diesel generators on the pattern of the Kashmir Valley so that during extreme weather, the scarcity of power would be mitigated, he said.
The PDD staff should be more concerned, conscious and aware of their duties, he said, adding it was unfortunate that they failed to put in required effort to ensure regular supply of electricity.
Balbir sought to know from the government, "Whether there is a project lying with it for setting up of a thermal power and why the same has not been taken up in spite of the fact that the electricity is always in short supply and causes miseries to the people."
