IT DID not require direct intervention. Rather, the sheer presence did the trick. The presence of a ‘powercentre’ and its import was enough for the BMC officials to leave the ‘official work’ unaccomplished. And do the vanishing trick rather than becoming a possible target of wrath of the mighty.
According to information, a team of BMC officials on Tuesday reached the National Hospital in Arera Colony to measure building and assess the property tax. But, the presence of Chief minister’s wife Sadhna Singh was enough to make officers literally disappear from the scene without completing the job.
The BMC officers went into action mode today after a corporator, some workers and BJP leaders had a scuffle with the hospital’s staff on Monday, when they reached to admit an ailing son of the corporator. However, the ailing boy could not be admitted for reasons not exactly known and shifted to another hospital.
According to sources, City planner Subhashish Banerjee and Deputy Commissioner DS Parihar reached the hospital with the team. However, when the Chief Minister’s wife summoned them, the team left the place pronto.
When asked, Banerjee told that he was not present. He said the building permission section employees had gone to the hospital to assist the property tax officials for measurement of the building.
Dr P K Pandey of National Hospital told the Hindustan Times that the BMC officials had asked for documents for property tax assessment, an exercise, which was carried out 2-3 months back. Dr Pandey said the Chief Minister’s wife had come with an elder member of the family for routine check-up.
