ECONOMIC OFFENCE Wing (EOW) has seized the records related to Shreyas Puri, son of former DGP Swaraj Puri, from Shri Govindram Saxeria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) to conduct investigate whether he fudged documents to obtain admission in the engineering college under NRI-sponsored quota in 2001.
The college authorities are said to have handed over the documents that contain a letter of sponsorship, copy of NRI account and copy of NRI visa.
As per SGSITS records, the college granted admission to 25 students under the quota out of which Shreyas’s position was 14th in the list. College authorities, sources said, have told EOW that most admissions granted under NRI-sponsored quota have no blood relationship between the student and sponsor as it was not mandatory under All India Council of Technical Education guidelines till 2001.
EOW seized records following a court order issued in response to private complaint filed by ex-BJP corporator Mahesh Garg where he questioned how could NRI businessman Babulal Somani be a grandfather to Shreyas Puri.
He also alleged that Puri supported Somani’s hawala transactions and as a bribe, Babulal sponsored Shreyas’s studies under NRI quota.
