RETIRED ELECTRICITY Service Commission (ESC) chairman SK Sharma was reported missing since April 4 under mysterious circumstances after he left his Mahanagar residence. Police investigations indicate that Sharma was held captive by somebody for money, as he had asked his wife (on phone) to arrange for Rs 15 lakh on Friday.

Sharma’s wife Savita, who is a professor in Banaras Hindu University (BHU), lodged an FIR about her husband’s disappearance at the Mahanagar police station only on Friday. SP (Crime) Dinesh Chandra Dubey was handed over the probe of the case.

Though the Sharmas lodged an FIR they said he (SK Sharma) had gone to Delhi regarding some personal work. The kin also denied that Sharma had been kidnapped.

Savita stated in the FIR that her husband had left his 40, Hydel Colony residence in the evening on April 4. He was accompanied by an acquaintance in a vehicle. She said that her husband had told the domestic help that he would be back within one-and-half hour. However, she further stated, Sharma did not return home since then.

The police said that investigation so far into the matter revealed that Sharma was responding only to his wife on his mobile phone and was not picking up other numbers.

Talking to the mediapersons, SSP Ashutosh Pandey said primary investigations and other clues indicated that Sharma was detained by any acquaintance over some money dispute.
