Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Sibu Soren who was awarded life imprisonment in the Shashi Nath Jha murder case could now be pleased to find even his worst critics in Jharkhand politics going soft towards him and guarded. The reactions of functionaries and leaders of various political parties reiterate the fact that the political uncertainty facing the JMM could come handy for other parties to try and forge a new political camaraderie in Jharkhand.
Former CM Arjun Munda: The court has given its verdict on Sibu Soren and the party should honour the judgment. I have nothing to say anything more on it. Former Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari: The court’s sentence to Soren in a murder case should be treated as an eye-opener for all who are in public life.
Politics should be taken as a vocation to serve the people and not to indulge in selfish and criminal pursuits. Congress chief Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu: It seems that Soren has been denied justice at the special court. The Congress is firmly with the JMM at each and every step it takes to seek justice for Guruji, who has been caught in a dragnet of BJP’s design to harass him. The Congress never asked for the resignation of Soren from Lok Sabha, as it is convinced that the special court’s verdict would not stand in the upper court.
Deputy Chief Minister Stephen Marandi: This is unbelievable for me to accept that Sibu Soren, who had fought a selfless battle for the honour and prestige of over three crore people of Jharkhand, could indulge in such a demeaning activity like murder. I hope that Guruji will get justice in the upper court. Former finance minister and BJP leader Raghubar Das: It is high time Sibu Soren should decide the future course of action of his party, after the sentence. He (Soren) should try to find out the causes that compounded the problem for him.
