A former Deputy Collector's son has been arrested by GRP in a case of credit card theft in Balasore district, police said on Saturday.
Pradipta Mahapatra (34), son of a retired Deputy Collector of Balasore, was apprehended from his father-in-law's house for allegedly using a stolen credit card one month back.
Police said the accused had stolen a purse containing a bank's debit and credit cards and a driving licence of the daughter of Kanchan Singh, the Deputy Superintendent, Horticulture, Survey of India from Balasore railway station when they (the Singhs) were travelling to New Delhi with his family by Purushottam Express on October 14,2009.
The accused had used the stolen credit card to purchase gold of Rs 25,000 from a jewellery shop at Balasore.
Several cases in Vishakhapatnam and Baripada are also pending against the accused.
