Ex-Indian diplomat named director of UN body

His new responsibilities include support to the UN specialized agencies, strengthening relations with NGOs and civil society.

Former Indian diplomat Nikhil Seth has been appointed Director at the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) from August one.

The Director level is the most senior career appointment in the UN.

Seth has served in Geneva, Zaire (now the Democratic republic of Congo), as desk officer for Sri Lanka in the Ministry of External Affairs, Delhi and with the Permanent Mission of India to the UN prior to his assignments with the United Nations.

His new responsibilities include support to the UN specialized agencies, strengthening relations with NGOs and civil society and activities connected with development.
