JMM's former Lok Sabha MP Hemlal Murmu was on Thursday arrested when he came to file nomination papers for the Barheit assembly constituency in Sahebganj as a non-bailable arrest warrant was pending against him.
After his arrest, Murmu was produced before the Raj Mahal Judicial Magistrate, A K Dubey, who rejected his bail petition and send him to 14 days judicial remand as the JMM leader failed to appear before it even once in connection with a 15-year-old case.
The case pertains to May 12, 1994 when a junior engineer, Laxman Singh, complained before the then Patana Block Development Officer, C B Singh, that Murmu had allegedly instigated his followers to manhandle him.
The complaint was converted into an FIR after the BDO forwarded it to Ranga police station.
The NBW was issued after Murmu failed to appear before the court since then.
Election to the assembly constituency would be held on November 25.
