Former Madhya Pradesh Minister Tara Singh Viyogi passed away at a private hospital here yesterday after a prolonged illness.
He was 84.
His mortal remains were today consigned to flames amid chanting of mantras at a crematorium here. His son Gopal Singh lit the funeral pyre at Char Shahar Ka Naka Crematorium.
Hundreds of people gathered at the crematorium to pay their last respect to the departed soul.
Viyogi had been a Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister in 1980s and was a popular figure, especially among the working class.
From an ordinary local mill workers leader, Viyogi rose to become Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) Madhya Pradesh unit President and later its national Vice-President.
