Eyewitnesses said it was a narrow escape for the army officer as the  youth was drunk and he waved his revolver at the officer dangerously, issuing life threats along with his two friends. Even a little push could have caused another Meher-like incident in the city.

The cops, however, reached the place timely and arrested the trio. The incident reminded sensational killing of Mehar Bhargava who was shot at by miscreants for objecting to eve-teasing in Hazratganj.

It all began on Tuesday night around 10.50 pm when Captain Saurabh Tiwari of Cantonment was busy purchasing some food items from the food joint. His wife was standing a few yards away close to Tiwari’s vehicle. Meanwhile, the captain sensed as if some youths standing close to a luxury car were staring at his wife constantly which made the woman uncomfortable. He immediately walked to his wife and inquired if everything was okay.

The Army official lost his temper no sooner his wife complained about the youths passing lewd remarks at her for past few minutes. Tiwari went to the three youths and snubbed them for their objectionable act.

The trio, however, started screaming at Tiwari hurling choicest expletives and threatening him with dire consequences. The official even tried to make the youths understand that they were wrong and should not have reacted this way. But, it did not cause any effect on drunken youths.

One of the hooligans whipped out a revolver seeing a few of the onlookers trying to intervene in favour of the official. The armed youth brandishing the weapon in his hand issued life threats to Tiwari asking the latter to leave the place or he (Tiwari) would be shot. He kept making obscene remarks at official’s wife. The armed youth even threatened the people in the gathering too hurling expletives, eyewitnesses confirmed.

Meanwhile, Tiwari rang up the control room and the Hazratganj police rushed to the scene. Even the presence of cops could not stop the armed youth screaming at Tiwari hysterically.

As a sub-inspector (S-I) tried to lay hands on the youth, the latter pushed him away identifying himself as a top politician’s son. He threatened the cop to face the music if he initiated action against him.

However, the police brought the youths to the police station. The youth carrying revolver was identified as Dev Rajput of 5/74, Vishal Khand, Gomti Nagar whose father Ganga Charan Rajput is a senior Congress leader and ex-MP.

His friends have been identified as Sanjay Singh and Awadhesh Mishra, both of Parikalp Nagar, Krishna Nagar.

The trio was arrested for eve-teasing and issuing life threats.`
