A GROUP of students supporting the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) demonstrated at the Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS) on Monday demanding the expulsion of a student Anshul Tiwari who was allegedly involved in attack on NSUI cadre Samiul Rehman on Saturday.
Although the NSUI also claimed they undertook a strike at the college, college principal Father Joseph P P told Hindustan Times that the college functioned normally on Monday. He said a group of students met him with complaints regarding hooliganism by another group and he assured students that proper action would be taken.
The principal, however, clarified the brawl was between the two students outside the college gates thus it was not directly involved. But since students belonged to the college, some steps would be taken to resolve the matter.
The NSUI has charged that members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) including Anshul Tiwari were indulging in hooliganism on the college campus and that action should be taken against them. The organisation representatives said the principal had assured action and if no concrete action comes by December 23, the NSUI would intensify its agitation. Meanwhile, the ABVP has denied that Anshul Tiwari is their member.
ABVP and NSUI activists have been involved in friction in the college right since the students’ council poll held in the month of September. The brawl on Saturday was said to be fallout of this continuing friction.
