Expelled BJP leader Tamal Kanti Deb on Monday joined the Trinamool Congress along with fifty party activists.

Deb, who held the post of general secretary of Tripura unit of the BJP, would now hold the same designation in TC.

"After joining our party, we have appointed Deb as our general secretary and entrusted him with the organisational responsibility of North Tripura district," TC state president Dulal Das told PTI.

Last year, BJP had expelled him on charges of anti-party activities.

Deb, however, claimed that he had resigned from the party blaming "there is no inner democracy in the party".

Meanwhile, TMC has sent a proposal to the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) for jointly fighting the three-tier panchayat elections to be held in the state on June 20.
