A 32-year-old engineer, who works as a project manager with a group of companies, was arrested for allegedly shooting at a doctor, an orthopaedic surgeon, and his wife after a brawl at Vasundhara in Ghaziabad late Sunday night.
The police arrested Manmohan Sharma (32) on charges of attempt-to-murder after he allegedly fired and critically injured a doctor (37) and his wife (32), who is a chartered accountant by profession, at his residence at Vasundhara sector-14 with his licensed revolver.
After his arrest, Sharma told police he was having an extra-marital affair with the doctor's wife since 2002. The two had worked together in a private company in Okhla in New Delhi. On getting to know about his affair, Sharma's wife had threatened to walk out of marriage a day before the crime, police said.
"Our relationship created problems at our homes and we decided to meet and put an end to the issue. On Sunday, there was a heated exchange of words and the incident occurred," Sharma told reporters at the office of senior superintendent of police (SSP) on Monday.
Police recovered three glasses with leftover alcohol and two licensed revolvers from Sharma's residence after the incident. "One of the two revolvers seized belonged to Sharma and the other to the doctor," SSP Raghubir Lal said.
The doctor and his wife were admitted to a hospital at Indira-puram and were stated under treatment for bullet injuries.
