THE IDENTITY of the youth, who had set himself afire and jumped to death from a multi-storey building in Bima Kunj on Tuesday, was ascertained.

The deceased was identified as Ajay Pratap Singh, 22, a native of Shahdol. He lived at his relative’s house here and studied in the third year of BE (Computer Science) at the All Saints’ College.

A suicide note was recovered from his room. In the suicide note, the deceased had written he was a loner. Ajay had written that he had suffered loneliness since his childhood, leading him to take the step. He had also written that nobody should be held responsible for his death.

Ajay wrote that soul never dies and he would always be with his parents even after death. His birthday falls in November end.

Ajay lived in his uncle Brajendra Singh’s house in the City. On Tuesday, he had left the house saying that he was going to meet a friend but did not return till late night.

On Wednesday, his relatives identified the deceased,  his slippers and keys at the police station. A bright student, Ajay was the only child of his parents. The police surmise that he might have decided to commit self-immolation but the pain caused by burns must have prompted him to jump off the roof.

Though the police are also interrogating his friends, they don’t see any other cause behind the suicide.
