India’s 16 big-name ophthalmologists will compete in a match on Sunday. OPL 20/20 will be played in the banquet hall of a five-star hotel by four teams — Chennai Capsules, Mumbai Multifocals, Delhi Devide and Conquer and Ahmedabad Acrylics.
“The ‘I’ of the IPL has been replaced with ‘O’, which stands for Ophthalmic. Also 20/20 in medical terms means a person with perfect eyesight,” said Dr TP Lahane, head of JJ hospitals ophthalmology department.
They will compete by sharing their lives’ most challenging and complicated surgeries. The team with the maximum and the most complicated cases will win.
“The idea is to create a light atmosphere where the juniors will also get an opportunity to learn,” said Dr Amar Aggarwal, a Chennai-based ophthalmologist, who conceptualised the OPL.
