Face the reality

Trying to avoid birth and death is not nirvana. Enlightenment takes place within the journey between life and death. Nirvana means ‘without wind’. Nir means ‘without’. Va means ‘wind’. We need the fire, the passion but we need it under control without the wind to blow it. The Buddha had the great fire and passion which was under his control and hence, he was called the enlightened one. We still feel the vibrancy of his spirit echoing down the centuries.

Our teeth would not come out, our eyesight would not fail, our skin would not wrinkle, and our hair would not turn grey. This is the vision of heaven. Our lives do not conform to this heavenly picture, and we feel a corresponding shame. Then we either spend huge amounts of money hiding the fact that we are not perfect specimens, or we wear ourselves out in supposedly spiritual procedures that enable us to believe that we are, or are on the way to becoming members of the chosen few who will always be surrounded by the pleasant, the beautiful and the comfortable and will live in heaven.

We put on a front for the world and cover up our infirmities because we are ashamed. But spiritualism teaches that it is better to live in the human world than in heaven. A noble person is one who accepts the reality of adversity. The salvation of humankind will be found in the practice of a noble response to existential reality. That is enlightenment.

Nobody can live forever. Awake to the law of causality (cause always precedes effect) and accept that the body will die. Unify energies. Have courage to be true to reality. Live vibrantly a wholesome, compassionate, positive life.

Help humanity. In your aloneness you will find yourself in communion with all beings every where. You do not stand alone, but are indissolubly involved in the fate of one another and of the world around us. That is nirvana, the gateway to real satisfaction.
