Fake currency: Punjab youths sent to 15-day judicial custody

The local court sent four youths, including a girl, to 15-day judicial custody in a case of fake currency here on Saturday. They were sent to Mandi sub-jail. The police arrested the youths hailing from Punjab and seized fake currency notes worth Rs 72,500 from their possession on Sunday.

The accused were identified as Jodh Singh of Chanyarakhal village, Sandeep Singh of Halotali village, Mullapur, and Amandeep Singh of Sucha Singh village. All the villages fall under Fatehgarh Sahib area of Punjab and Harjit Kaur of Ali Nangal village under Gurdaspur area of Punjab.

The police said the accused were in the age group of 21-23 and students engineering at Baba Banda Singh Engineering College, Faridkot, Punjab.

Sources said during investigation the accused revealed that a person hailing from Bihar, Rambha Bahi, gave them fake currency notes of Rs 1 lakh and assured them that no one could prove that the notes were fake.
