The three Gujarat Anti-terrorist Squad (ATS) policemen, arrested in connection with the fake encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, were on Thursday remanded by a court in Ahmedabad to four more days of police custody till May 19.
The arrested persons are ATS Inspector NH Dabhi and two lower-rank policemen Ajay Parmar and Sant Ram Sharma.
The CID (crime) sought extension of the remand of the three ATS members on the ground that they were not cooperating in the investigation.
The CID also said they want to know who all were the police officials involved in the conspiracy to eliminate Sheikh.
The three were arrested on May 7 and charged with abduction, illegal confinement and murder of Sheikh on the outskirts of the city on November 2005. They had earlier been remanded to seven days custody by the court on May 8.
Dabhi has been accused of allegedly shooting Sheikh in the fake encounter.
Parmar was the personal assistant to the IPS officer Rajkumar Pandian when he was the SP with the state ATS while Sharma is a constable.
The three were part of the team that went to Andhra Pradesh under the then ATS SP Rajkumar Pandian to nab Sheikh.
Pandian is among three IPS officers who were arrested earlier in connection with the fake encounter killing of Sheikh, the other two are DS Vanzara and Dinesh MN.
Meanwhile, the CID submitted to the court a confession of the one of the arrested policemen in a sealed cover which is supposed to be opened during the trial.
The CID told the court that the three ATS members were in touch with their superiors using differnet phones and the investigating agency wants to check their call records.
The investigating agency also said the three policemen needed to be taken to Andhra Pradesh to know about the involvement of certain Andhra Pradesh police officials in the case.
The CID also stated that the arrested ATS policemen had allegedly changed the number plates of the Toyota Qualis taken from Ahmedabad and police needed to know the reasons for doing this.
Vanzara, Pandian and Dinesh MN were arrested in the same case and are in judicial custody till May 25. They are at present lodged in city Central Jail at Sabarmati.
