It is better to check the credentials of placement agencies before getting trapped in their lucrative offers. At least those youths, who have been duped by such agencies would say so.

On Sunday, the city police busted a racket that was operational in the garb of a placement agency in Hazratganj. The agency owner Gaurav Tiwari has been arrested for the charges of committing fraud in the name of providing jobs in ICICI Bank. He duped over 50 youths worth several lakh rupees in the name of providing jobs in private companies.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Crime, Gyan Prakash Chaturvedi says the racket was unearthed on the complaints of the ICICI bank officials. He said the bank authorities came to know about the fraud when some youths having fake job letters approached them. The agency owner issued fake job letters for different posts in the bank and minted several lakh rupees from the candidates.

The ASP said Tiwari, who hails from Kanpur, was staying here in a rented accommodation in Gomti Nagar and was running a placement agency ”Global Outsourcing and HR Services” from the last one year. He opened the well-furnished office of the agency at prime location in Tej Kumar Plaza to attract the youths.

The accused also employed staff of at least five persons in the agency to entertain the applicants.

He used to take money in advance from the applicants in the name of providing jobs to them in private companies. And later used to issue them fake job letters.

Tiwari also used to harass the youths after taking their academic certificates in his possession. ICICI Bank Regional Manager Akhilesh Pandey had lodged an FIR of fraud against the accused with Hazratganj police station.

The ASP said Tiwari's involvement in fraud is ascertained through the documents seized from his office. However, the police investigation is on to ascertain the role of other employees of his placement agency. Some more arrests could be done if any of them were found involved along with the agency owner.
