A 40-YEAR-OLD man was shot at and seriously injured by his niece’s husband over a long-standing family dispute in the Jinsi locality of Jehangirabad on Monday afternoon.
According to the police, the victim Asif lives in Jinsi. He owns some buses that run for schools. The culprit Mushtaq Khan (35) alias Guddu, a resident of Umraoganj locality in Raisen and currently living at a rented house in Ashoka Vihar locality in Bhopal, reached Asif’s house on a Kawasaki motorcycle at about 3.45 pm.
Mushtaq called Asif out of the house and as soon as the latter came out, the culprit pulled out a country-made revolver and fired a shot. The pellets from the 12-bore cartridge hit Asif in the stomach.
He sustained several pellet injuries and fell to the ground bleeding profusely from the stomach. Meanwhile, Mushtaq fled the spot leaving the two-wheeler behind. Asif’s family members rushed him to the People’s Hospital in Malviya Nagar locality. He was admitted in a critical condition and underwent life-saving surgery. Doctors at the hospital said his condition was still serious at the time this report was filed.
Meanwhile, police said the reason behind the attack was a family dispute. Naheed, the daughter of Asif’s sister Naazim, is married to the culprit Mushtaq for some years. However, ever since their marriage Mushtaq is reported to have been torturing and harassing Naheed.
A case is also pending in the family court of Raisen in the matter, police said. Asif had been mediating in the couple’s marital discord in order to mend things. It is suspected that Mushtaq might have developed animosity against Asif due to his interference in the matter.
Police said some days ago some members of Asif’s family had gone to Umraoganj and threatened Mushtaq’s family to treat Naheed well. That gesture could have been the immediate cause that triggered off the attack on Asif, police added.
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder under Section 307 IPC against Mushtaq and further investigations were on in the matter. Police parties had been rushed to three spots to round up Mushtaq but he was said to be absconding till the filing of this report.
