They remained his ultimate strength and supported him in all his revolutionary steps, including his decision to fight elections against Sheila Dikshit — a victory that he will always be remembered for. Saturday was just another day for the family of Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, when he took the oath to office as the chief minister of Delhi. But they were by his side through the historical moment.
Irrespective of the fact that scores of AAP supporters and media persons were present at his house to escort his son to the swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, Govindram Kejriwal was busy following his daily routine. The senior Kejriwal went for a morning walk and offered morning prayers at the nearby Hanuman Temple before returning home.
On Saturday, Govindram’s visit to the temple was not his usual. He offered a special aarti prayer for his son. Unaffected by his son’s fame, Govindram, who retired as chief electrical engineer from Jindal Steels, Hissar, answered like a true gentleman when asked if he was attending his son’s swearing-in ceremony.
“I prayed to God so that my son should be able to deliver on the promises he has made to the people of Delhi,” Kejriwal senior told reporters. Asked if he too will be accompanying his son in the Metro train, Govindram humbly said, “All the family members will go together in the Metro train.”
About the challenges which the new Delhi CM will be facing while fulfilling the promises he made to the Delhiites, Govindram said, “God will decide everything for us. I am not in a position to claim that all the promises will be fulfilled. We only do good work, and God gives the fruits of labour. It’s my prayer to God that he succeeds.”
Not just his father, even Kejriwal’s wife Sunita remained unaffected with the success her husband achieved. Sunita made sure that she and her children accompanied Kejriwal in the Metro train journey from Kaushambi to Barakhamba Road.
When asked in the train if she had ever though that her husband would be able to reach this point, a composed Sunita said she always trusted his strength and hard work.
