Three armed men dragged a family out of their Honda City car and drove away with it on Monday afternoon in Dwarka.
A senior executive with a multinational firm, his wife and their 19-year-old daughter were travelling to Dwarka from their house in Gurgaon Sector 14 when they were attacked.
The couple’s daughter, a sociology student at Lady Shriram College in Delhi, is visually impaired. She suffers from Retinitis Pigmentosa (extensively damaged retinas) since birth and has less than one per cent vision.
The names of the members of the family have been held on request.
The girl's laptop and some audio files of her college notes were also in the car, which were lost.
“I cannot read, so my friends narrate the notes to me and I record them in my I-pod and then transfer them into my laptop. My laptop, spectacles and hand-held magnifying glasses are all gone,” she said.
The incident happened at 2.50 pm. The family was on their way to visit the girl’s maternal grandfather who lives in Sector 6, Dwarka. Her father (53) was driving and she was sitting next to him.
“We had to drop our daughter at the LSR hostel (she lives there). I lost the way and slowed down the car at the turn opposite Indraprastha International School in Sector 10. A man on a motorcycle with his face covered intercepted our way. At the same time, two more persons approached us with guns. They banged the car’s windows and started abusing us,” he said.
When he stopped, they were dragged out, he said.
K Jagadeshan, DCP (southwest) said a case was registered against unknown miscreants.
