A LARGE number of farmers, under the banner of Khet Bachchao Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, staged a demonstration outside the office of a private company in Sigra area on Wednesday to oppose the establishment of proposed high-tech city between Rohania and Mohansarai in Varanasi.

The activists and farmers assembled at Maldahiya crossing from where they reached the office of the private company, which was permitted by state government to establish high tech city in Varanasi. The farmers were raising slogans against the state government and the private company.

The farmers were of the view that they would not allow the state government to acquire the fertile land of farmers in the name of proposed high tech city in Varanasi. They criticised the State government that on one side it was engaged in distributing unemployment allowance but on the other side, it was trying to displace farmers in the name of development.

They warned the state government that if the move to establish the proposed High-tech city in Varanasi was not cancelled within a month, the farmers under the banner of Khet Bachchao Kisan Sangharsh Samiti would stage an indefinite dharna in Varanasi.

Prominent among others who participated in the dharna included Dr Hira Lal, Kunwar Suresh Singh and Ramjee Singh.
