After the Mumbai hoopla, the spotlight is on the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in Delhi, where fashionistas shifted — lock, stock and apparel. If slipping dresses were Mumbai's mishap, things generally malfunctioned on the opening day of WLIFW in the Capital.

First there were empty seats on either side of the ramp. When the crowds gathered as the show progressed, the entry point at the Main Show Area 2 (MSA 2) was poorly managed.

Guests dripping in designer wear shuffled and sweated as they were kept waiting for a long time. It did not become better once they entered. While the front-rowers made it to the allotted seats, the less privileged ones had a hard time finding theirs. Some of the glitterati were turned away for lack of space though they were waving valid invitation cards.

The one good thing was that stalls were ready on the first day itself, with designer wear hanging neatly on racks.

The WLIFW is looking to some good show on the ramp. Five days will see over 55 designer shows and about 15,000 visitors. Touted as the biggest fashion B2B event, WLIFW has over 160 buyers, including Didier Grumbach, president of the French fashion federation.

Perhaps, on day two the organisers can have some proper air conditioning in MSA 2 — haute couture doesn't mean one has to watch the show feeling hot under the collar.
