A local court has directed a man, accused of raping a minor girl, that he should take care of her child while being lodged in the jail.
The boy, who is now six months old, was born to the girl after she was allegedly abducted and raped by Vikas Singh, the accused.
Singh kept the girl in confinement at Jeemni village in the district before the police arrested him and rescued the girl on November 27.
Public prosecutor Mahendra Kulshestra said that on November 28, when Vikas was produced before the sessions court, the court remanded him in police custody and the girl was sent to a shelter home.
However, as she is a minor, under the law the boy can not be handed over to her as yet, said the prosecutor. Therefore, the court ordered Vikas to take care of the child while in jail.
Morena jail's chief warden Dattaram Maurya said that the jail administration had made all necessary arrangements to take care of the child.
