In yet another case of 'honour-killing,' a father strangulated and later hanged his 20-year-old daughter at Sikri Khurd area of Modi Nagar in Ghaziabad after the victim refused to end her love affair with a man from a different religion. Later, the accused father surrendered before the police.
Salimuddin Khan (55) had had a heated altercation with his daughter Shahida on Saturday morning at their residence. The altercations began after the accused came to know that her daughter had gone to meet her friend earlier in the day.
Two hours after killing his daughter, Khan walked into the Modi Nagar police station around 9am and surrendered before the officials by admitting his crime.
After Khan surrendered before the police, victim's elder brother, Amzad Khan, lodged a murder case against his father.
"Her affair with the man from a different religion was unbearable and brought bad name to the family. I tried to convince her but she was unwilling to give up the relationship. This led me to murder her," Khan told the police. The victim, who had stopped her studies after Class 10, was in a relationship with Pankaj Kumar (23), an MBA student at a private college in Meerut. She was the only daughter in the family and has three elder brothers.
"They developed a relationship around four-five years back and met frequently, as they lived in the same area," said Yogesh Pathak, station house officer, Modi Nagar police station.
