Festive fervour peaks on Mahanavami

FESTIVE MOOD reached its peak on Mahanavami on Sunday. ?Kunwari kanya pujan?, ?Yagya? and ?Hawan? were organised at puja pandals. Yuva Shakti Club organised worship of 101 girls amid chanting of mantras at its puja site in Gilat Bazaar area.The Navratras are dedicated to nine forms of Goddess Durga. Since the ninth day is dedicated to Siddhidatri, the temple of Siddhidatri was overcrowded with devotees.

At other temples, too, devotees offered ‘chunaris’ and coconuts to Goddess Durga.   ‘Sandhi Puja’ was performed late on Saturday night.

Several cultural functions were also organised. Nav Durga Samiti held a dandiya dance in Rajmandir area on Saturday night. Bhajan recital was held at Madhuban in Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The Kashi Durgotsav Samiti organised ‘Jatra’ (a traditional Bengali play) in Shivala area.

Noted singers Shekhawat Hussain and Aradhana Mishra mesmerised the audience with their bhajans and ghazals near the puja site of the Baba Machchodarnath Samiti in Machchoddari area. Bhajan singers of the Adi Shakti Bhajan Satsang Mandal enthralled the audience at the Gai Ghat puja pandals.

Immersion procession of the idols will be taken out on Monday. The district administration has made elaborate security arrangements for peaceful immersion. The administration has divided Varanasi in five zones and 21 sectors.

Magistrates and police personnel will keep a close vigil on immersion processions of each organisation. Special security arrangements have been made on the Dashshwemedh route.
