Fill vacant posts on priority: Guv

THE ISSUE of vacancies of teaching posts in various universities and its negative impact on the academic scenario came up for detailed discussion at the meeting of the Universities? Coordination Committee (UCC) on Monday leading the Governor and Chancellor Dr Balram Jakhar to direct that discrepancies in the way of filling up posts should be removed on priority.

THE ISSUE of vacancies of teaching posts in various universities and its negative impact on the academic scenario came up for detailed discussion at the meeting of the Universities’ Coordination Committee (UCC) on Monday leading the Governor and Chancellor Dr Balram Jakhar to direct that discrepancies in the way of filling up posts should be removed on priority.

The issue of vacancies was taken up by various Vice-Chancellors including Prof R S Sirohi of Barkatullah University and Prof A D N Vajpayee of Avadesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa.

In response, the principal secretary of the higher education department and member-secretary of the committee Dr Bhagirath Prasad said a proposal was being forwarded to the State Cabinet to do away with discrepancies in the process of filling up the vacant posts.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said bogus colleges should be strictly checked and their recognitions cancelled. Higher Education Minister Tukojirao Pawar was present at the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chancellor said Madhya Pradesh should have such a place in academic sector that local students need not need to go to other States for higher education. He warned that corruption and irregularities would not be tolerated and directed Vice-Chancellors to be vigilant about activities of the university.

The Chief Minister said the State was in dire need of academic reforms and urged vice-chancellors to chalk out plans in this direction. He emphasised on transparency, sincerity and integrity.

Ahilya University, Indore, O P Agrawal of Jiwaji University, Gwalior, director general of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism Achyutanand Mishra, PS of Finance Department P P Tiwari, secretary of Finance Department A P Shrivastava, principal secretary Bhupal Singh and commissioner of higher education department S N Mishra were present at the meeting and put up various points.
