The dispute out of financial transactions was the main motive behind the murder of Sheena Bora, according to the highly confidential report submitted by director general of police Sanjeev Dayal to the Maharashtra government last Friday.
Sheena’s mother Indrani Mukerjea and her husband Peter had allegedly deposited a huge sum they earned from the sale of INX Media, a media group the duo co-founded, in Sheena’s name. The report states the conspiracy to kill Sheena was hatched by Indrani, after Sheena refused to part with the money.
Based on the report submitted by Dayal, the Maharashtra government has given its own report to the Centre, along with a request to hand over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
In the report to the Central government, the state has said that 80% of the investigation in the murder case is complete. It has also stated the Mumbai police have completed only 4-5% of the investigation into the financial transactions related to the case, said a home department official.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had on Monday said the case was handed over the CBI owing to the economic offences involved in it.
