How lure of big bucks led women into the trap
HER HUSBAND earned barely enough to make ends meet and the prospect of earning big money brought her to the beauty parlour-cum-massage centre. But, little did she know that she would gradually get ensnared in flesh trade.

That is the story of one of the women who was arrested along with several others on Sunday in raids at two places where prostitution was going on under the garb of massage parlours. Other women’s stories are not too different, as most of them come from similar backgrounds.

“I started with facial services and shaving for men,” says the woman, whose husband is a waiter in a hotel. “But later we were asked to do half-body massage followed by full body massage,” she told the police. “Then for a higher charge I would go topless while giving a message as we would get good tip by customers.”

The women told police that they fell into the trap due to the lure of easy money. ‘‘At the time of joining the parlour, we would be given the impression that nobody would be allowed to take advantage of us and the operator said that we should report if any customer makes indecent advances. But, it would happen subtly and we got into the trap,’’ said another of the arrested women, who lives in a rented room in Bhopal.

She earlier worked at a shop selling saris and the promise of handsome amount brought her to the parlour. The cabins in the parlours would be used for ‘full body massage’, a euphemism for flesh trade.

The operators of both parlours, Shakir Ali and Ashi, are husband and wife. One of the parlours was running in a rented shop while the other shop had been bought on loan. The police have reportedly found diaries containing phone numbers of some other women, including a couple of girls who live in hostels in Bhopal and are studying here.

“It seems a few girls from well-to-do families were also involved,” said a police official investigating the case. Meanwhile, the arrested persons, including the operators and the women, have been sent to judicial remand.
