The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday registered an FIR against Anubhav Institute of Technology and Management located at Ghatampur in Kanpur district for allegedly running without adequate facilities.

Samajwadi Party MP from Fatehpur Rakesh Sachan runs the Anubhav Institute of Technology and Management.

An FIR has been registered against officers of the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) in New Delhi and Kanpur, also, for granting permission to the ill-equipped institute to run.

CBI Deputy Inspector General Pankaj Srivastava said that sleuths of the agency raided the premises of the engineering college and AICTE offices. “An FIR had been registered against the institute and AICTE officers on charges of forgery,” he said.

According to sources, Dayanand College, in Ghatampur, got affiliation from Kanpur University in 2005 to start degree courses. Later the management of the college got permission from the AICTE to run an engineering and management college on its own premises. Last year the AICTE granted recognition to the engineering institute and it was affiliated to UP Technical University (UPTU).

The CBI received a complaint that the degree college did not have the facilities to start an engineering college. During investigation it was found that the engineering institute was being run on the campus of a degree college.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Sachan said both the degree college and the engineering college were running in separate buildings.

“The institute had been recognised by both the AICTE and UPTU,” he said.

The Delhi, Ghaziabad and Lucknow units of the CBI have launched an investigation against illegal engineering and management colleges in Uttar Pradesh.

“Officers of the AICTE are involved in the racket,” an officer said.
