A CASE was registered at the Mahanagar police station on Sunday against son of UPPCL legal advisor for duping a gullible person of several thousands of rupees in the name of providing job in a news channel of the Philippines  during the last four months.

Earlier, the police had registered a case against the victim on Saturday night following pressure of some influential persons. The victim was even sent to jail on Sunday. The police, however, still were avoiding arrest of the accused following intervention of some persons close to a powerful cabinet rank minister.

The victim Amit Mishra, a resident of Sitapur Road Scheme colony, stated in his FIR that Zamir Ahmed of 498/23, New Hyderabad, had lured him for a job of bureau chief in a news channel of the Philippines. Mishra said that Zamir used to send him e-mails in the fake name of John Robinson of the channel assuring the victim of the job.

Whenever Mishra enquired Zamir about the mails the latter used to tell him that it came from Singapore-based office of the channel. Zamir had taken several thousand of rupees from Mishra in the name of providing the job.
Mishra had later intimated the cyber crime prevention section of the special task force suspecting the mails were being sent from a cyber café at Nishatganj. Mishra did not confide the revelation to Zamir.

Mishra had gone to Kanpur to attend a function where he met Zamir. He enquired Zamir about the forgery and the latter confessed his offence. The accused also assured to return Mishra’s money there.

However, Zamir sought help of his influential friends to teach a lesson to Mishra. He called up Mishra to his home on Saturday night from where he was handed over to the police. Zamir got a case registered against Mishra and his friends Saurabh Pandey and Arvind Yadav too. Mishra was arrested later following pressure of some influential persons.

It was only after intervention of some media persons that the police lodged a cross case of fraud against Zamir in the morning.

INFLUENCE OF Zamir could be gauged with the fact that he came to visit SSP Ashutosh Pandey at the latter’s camp office along with a self-proclaimed journalist on Sunday night. This journalist was known for his proximity to a powerful rank minister who matters in the State government. However, the Mahanagar police were claiming that they were searching for Zamir till late tonight.
