A First Information Report was lodged against two students of the Cambridge Institute of Technology (CIT), on the outskirts of the Jharkhand capital, for allegedly preparing a two-minute-long sleazy MMS of a female student and blackmailing her.
The FIR was lodged by Indushekhar Jha, officer-in-charge of Tatisilve police station under the jurisdiction of which the institute falls, but after three days of receiving the complaint.
The victim had not lodged any formal compliant earlier but a group of girls of CIT, which is located at Tatisilve -- about 25 km from Ranchi, met Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) RK Mallik on Sunday and submitted a complaint with signatures of 73 girls studying in the institute.
The FIR was lodged under different sections of the Indian Information Act 2000 and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act 1986 against Raj Kumar Barnawal and Amit Kumar Sahu.
The girl whose image appears in the vulgar MMS said the two boys had superimposed her face on another body and were circulating it among college students.
They had first shown the MMS to the girl and tried to blackmail her. The girl informed the institute management but its inaction forced her to go to the police.
The institute finally suspended the two boys on Monday.
Both students have gone underground after the news appeared in the media. The institute management has seized the mobile sets and CDs, which will be sent for forensic tests.
Meanwhile, the police are on the lookout for the two accused.
