A fire broke out in a godown, stacked with cotton, plastics and clothes, on the crossing of Brabourne Road and Strand Road in central parts of the city late on Monday night.

Ten fire tenders went to the site to put off the blaze, which broke out at around 10 pm and was brought under control after some time, fire brigade sources said.

There was no report of any casualty in the blaze, which broke out in the false ceiling of the godown, spread over an area of 500 sq ft, and caused panic initially among the locals in the congested area.

The cause and extent of damage were being ascertained.
