THE TOURISM Department today filed FIRs against four of its officials in connection with the carpet purchase scam.
All these officials, including the managing director of the department, had been suspended two weeks back when the scam was first detected.
Director general, Tourism, Om Prakash said on Thursday that the inquiry committee, headed by the finance controller, found that the four officers had embezzled more than Rs 1 crore.
The officials involved in the scam are managing director RS Jaiswal, senior manager Ramashankar Bajpai, assistant accountant Rajesh Mishra and Sanjay Singh.
The Tourism Department in a note to the DG Tourism had sought permission for purchasing carpets for the office of secretary, Tourism.
Though no carpets were bought, payment was made through a bearer cheque in favour of a carpet company.
Now the department has constituted a cell to look into the expenditures that the department has made in the last 15 years.
“The job has been handed over to the Habibullah Chartered Accountant Company and the VG Associates,” Prakash said.
