‘Fitness binds us together’
Trainer Deanne Pandey talks about working out with buddy Bipasha Basuindia Updated: Oct 01, 2011 17:12 IST
Bipasha Basu and fitness expert Deanne Pandey have been workout buddies for 17 years now. Last year, the two launched a fitness DVD comprising a 60-day workout
titled, Love Yourself. Now, the duo plans to come out with their next DVD by the year-end. Deanne reveals, “I introduced Bipasha to gymming and she was hooked. It
was around that phase when she received a lot of brickbats for putting on weight. So, I trained and travelled with her as a gym buddy and not a trainer, something that we do even today.”
The duo is currently in Mykonos, Greece, where Bipasha is shooting for her rom-com Jodi Breakers (earlier titled Shaadi Fast Forward) opposite R Madhavan. The actor and trainer have been exploring the city on foot. Deanne says, “Some people grumble about the city because you have to walk so much here. But Bips and I were jumping with joy. Fitness binds us together.”
Deanne feels their workouts are more effective when they train together because they constantly motivate each other. She says, “The minute we enter the gym, we jump, laugh and egg each other on. We are stronger in regards to endurance and stamina than most of boys there.”
Did exercise help Bipasha get over her breakup with John Abraham? Deanne points out, “Exercise and fitness routine did help her. One is able to face any kind of stress or ups and downs in life when they have a fit mind and body. You can remain de-stressed up to 14 hours after a workout because exercise helps release endorphins, which are happy hormones.”
The only problem area, however, Deanne reveals, was Bipasha’s knees. Deanne says, “Her knees have become better because of her weight-training. Scientifically, if you have joint problems, you must try to strengthen the muscle that holds and protects your joint. Bipasha does squats and trains her glutes to reduce the impact on her knees. She ices it down, rests and then it is ok.”
Upper body: She doesn’t do a lot of upper body exercises. She limits her upper body workouts to weights but her cardio routine is intense.
Lower body: She does squats, lunges and kicks, lifts weight, uses hack swats, leg extensions and dead lifts for her hamstring. In cardio, she loves the elliptical- cross training. Bipasha is a runner and uses the treadmill often. Her abs are fab, and she always concentrate on strengthening her mid-section.
