Five minor boys, aged between 7 and 14 years, sustained injuries after a double-barrel gun went off accidentally at an engagement ceremony at Razapur area of Kavi Nagar in Ghaziabad on Sunday afternoon. Senior police officials said that the gun was being loaded for celebratory firing.

The incident took place when the bridegroom's grandfather, Vikram Singh, was trying to load a .12 caliber double-barrel gun belonging to bridegroom's father. "The gun went off accidentally and the shot hit the ground. The splinters hit five children standing nearby. They were rushed to a hospital. Nobody sustained severe injuries. All injured are stable," a police officer said.

Singh is stated to be an Air-Force officer, presently posted at Bikaner. Senior police officials said that the gun was seized and Singh detained at Kavi Nagar police station.

"We are awaiting a formal complaint from the victim. The licence of the gun will be cancelled," senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prashant Kumar told Hindustan Times.
