Five die in Bhadohi, Kanwarias turn violent

Three minor Kanwarias were killed in a road mishap while another was shot dead in police firing in Bhadohi district on Tuesday. A minor Kanwaria also got injured after sustaining bullet in police firing. A 12 year old boy was also killed when the jeep of a station officer, in haste to reach the spot of violence, ran over him.

The accident took place when a truck on way from Allahabad to Varanasi ran over them on the national highway near Oonj police station in the morning. Agitated with the accident, thousands of Kanwarias turned violent and set ablaze some vehicles including two cars and a bike parked in Oonj police station and damaged nearly one and half dozen on the national highway.

Situation is quite tense in the area. Heavy police force has been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident. The Divisional Commissioner of Mirzapur division and DIG, Mirzapur have reached the spot.

The deceased of mishap, have been identified as Guddu Gupta (17), Nagendra Gupta (15) and Kishan Gupta (14), said to be cousin brothers, residents of Dhantaria village under Chauri police station in Bhadohi. The DIG for Mirzapur range, SN Sabat and the SP (Bhadohi), KK Swarankar rushed the spot and tried to pacified the demonstrating Kanwarias.

Following the violent mood of Kanwarias to set the police station on fire, the cops opened around 100 rounds of firing in air, later, they opened direct firing in which, an 18 year old, Kanwaria, Sintu Chaubey, was shot dead while a 14 year old, Kanwaria, Sanjay Bind sustained bullet. Sintu was a resident of Chaubeypur village in Bhadohi while Sanjay Bind is a resident of Bhithi in Allahabad.

The DIG for Mirzapur range, SN Sabat confirmed the death of five persons. He added, a 12 year old boy was killed when the jeep of station officer turned turtle on the road. The driver lost control over the steering when demonstrators hit a stone on his head. The Station Officer was also injured. The deceased is identified as Arwaj Shah. Locals also blocked the road to protest the death of child in accident.

According to information, a group of Kanwarias were on way from Sangam in Allahabad to Bhadohi. The Kanwarias, dancing to the tune of religious songs were moving on the road at around 8 am, meanwhile, a truck on way from Allahabad to Varanasi ran over three Kanwarias, who did not keep to the roadside. They died on the spot.

It infuriated the Kanwarias, who blocked the road, started damaging and burning the vehicles. Soon, they rushed the Oonj Police station and burnt a hut, two cars and a bike in the police station. In retaliation, cops had to open fire to control over the situation.
