Five tourists from Gujarat have been arrested in Goa for looting two young girls hailing from Andhra Pradesh at Old Goa Heritage monument near Panaji, police said on Tuesday.
The group was arrested on Goa border before they could enter Karnataka in their jeep bearing a Gujarat registration number.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Deu Banaulikar said golden ornaments and cash worth Rs six lakh were recovered from them.
The gang of five Pankaj Rathod (28), Bunty Shinkewar (27), Naveem Rathod (25), Yati Bagekar (25) and Praful Pramal (26), all from Ahmedabad town in Gujarat were arrested for theft, he said.
The gang looted two girls, Y Kamakshi and Chandrashekhar K from Hyderabad, who were in Goa to attend a wedding ceremony and had gone to Old Goa.
The duo had left their belongings in the car, which was broke open and robbed by the accused.
Police banking on the information given by locals chased the Gujarat registration car and managed to nab the accused before they could cross the state border.
