Five people, including four girls, were killed and 10 injured when the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a running train at an unmanned crossing in Orissa's Bargarh district, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on Friday evening at an unmanned level crossing between Barpali and Dunguripali, 400 km from Bhubaneswar, when a trekker carrying about 15 people was returning from a marriage party at Baraguda village in Bargarh district. The driver of the vehicle was trying to cross the rail track and had not noticed the approaching train, a police official said.
Three people died on the spot and two died later in hospital. The four girls who died are between 10 to 12 years of age, he said.
