Five more succumb to encephalitis

With five more children succumbing to encephalitis in different hospitals of eastern UP, during past two days, the toll has reached 486 since January this year, sources said.

Nine new patients suffering from the fever were admitted to various hospitals in the region, Additional Director Health LP Rawat said here today and added that two children died on Thursday, while three succumbed today.

He said a total of 2,809 patients suffering from Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) were admitted this year to BRD Medical College and other hospitals of the region. Of this, 486 died.

The additional director, health said that 158 patients suffering from encephalitis are undergoing treatment at BRD MCH, while 10 are admitted to government hospitals of adjoining districts.
