Five naxals surrender in Andhra Pradesh

india Updated: Jan 16, 2007 20:53 IST

Five naxals, including political secretary of the Praja Prathigatna group, surrendered before the police in Karimnagar on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police Devender Singh Chauhan told reporters that Munigi Mallaiah, political secretary of two districts of Praja Prathighatna, surrendered along with his weapon AK-47.

Mallaiah, who also worked as state provincial committee member, was arrested at Hyderabad in July last year but escaped from custody, Chauhan said.

Daya Rajaram alias Ramesh (35), commander of Singareni Karmika Samakhya, was another top-ranked cadre among those who surrendered.

These cadres were vexed with the party ideology, the police chief said.
