Five NSCN (I-M) militants apprehended in Arunachal

Five NSCN (I-M) militants have been apprehended by security forces in insurgency-hit Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh in the past couple of days, Assam Rifles sources said.

Five NSCN (I-M) militants have been apprehended by security forces in insurgency-hit Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh in the past couple of days, Assam Rifles sources said.

The 19 Assam Rifles (AR) stationed at Khonsa, the district headquarters, in a joint operation with state police nabbed one hardcore rebel of the outfit from Deomali on Saturday.

Acting on a tip off about the presence of a group of insurgents at Longkhong village, a search operation was launched after cordoning the area and self styled corporal Rockey alias Kiran Thapa was arrested, AR sources said in Itanagar on Sunday.

Security forces also recovered letter heads of the organisation signed by Colonel Hormi Thankhul besides other incriminating documents from his possession.

In an earlier operation on October 7 last, the AR apprehended another cadre of the outfit Kamung Janti, who was involved in extortion activities besides providing logistic support and mobilizing a group of 10-15 heavily armed cadres in the circle.

On October 11 last, self styled corporal Chingang Lowang was apprehended with two Chinese grenades and a diary containing telephone numbers of important NSCN (I-M) leaders, sources said.

Following an input regarding move of NSCN (I-M) cadres in NTC colony at Deomali after two days, the AR apprehended Sijen Namphu along with 100 gram of opium.

On October 21 last, based on inputs, the AR cordoned off Khonsa town and its adjoining areas and following search operation at three different pockets, Yakap Wangpan along with a town commander of the outfit were arrested, the sources added.
